The Vojvodina Symphony Orchestra continues its 2025/26 concert season, shaped by the motto “Titans – Classical Power Reimagined,” with a concert to be held on Thursday, March 26 at 8:00 PM at the Novi Sad Synagogue.

This concert evening marks the continuation of collaboration with the renowned British conductor Timothy Redmond, a frequent guest of the NOMUS, with whom the orchestra has performed successfully on several occasions. The soloist will be trombonist Peter Moore, the youngest winner of the prestigious BBC Young Musician competition in 2008, and also the youngest musician to become Principal Trombone of the London Symphony Orchestra.

The concert programme presents three representative works of British musical creativity from the 20th and 21st centuries. The evening opens with the ODTAA (One Damn Thing After Another) Overture by British composer Doreen Carwithen, composed in 1945. This energetic and witty orchestral miniature, whose title alludes to a series of unpredictable events “one after another,” is characterized by lively rhythms, a bright character, and rich orchestration. The central work of the programme is the Stargazer – Concerto for Trombone and Orchestra (1999) by contemporary British composer Jonathan Dove. In this imaginative and narrative piece, the trombone takes on the role of a kind of “stargazer,” guiding listeners through a sequence of musical scenes inspired by the night sky. The virtuosic solo part intertwines with the orchestra’s varied colours, creating a vivid sonic image of cosmic imagination and lyrical expression. The concert will conclude with the monumental Symphony No. 1 (1929) by one of the most important British composers of the 20th century, William Walton. This powerful and dramatic work, recognizable for its energetic rhythms, rich orchestration, and intense emotional tension, represents the culmination of Walton’s early creative period and stands as one of the key achievements of British symphonic literature.
